Wells Pet Nutrition-Advanced Pet Nutrition Practioner

Holistic and Integrative Nutrition Care for Pets (dog/cat) — Grounded in Science and Experience

I’m Lori Bauer, Certified in Small Animal Nutrition with over 15+ years of hands-on experience supporting pets through every life stage — from healthy adulthood to complex, multi-condition disease management.

My work blends evidence-based nutrition standards with a holistic, whole-body approach, allowing me to design nutrition plans that are both clinically sound and realistic for families to follow long term.

All diets I formulate — including home-prepared and therapeutic plans — are balanced using AAFCO and NRC nutrient standards, ensuring nutritional adequacy while tailoring recommendations to the individual pet.

How I Support Pets & Their People

When you work with Wells Pet Nutrition, you’re not just receiving a diet recommendation — you’re gaining thoughtful, ongoing nutrition guidance grounded in experience, clinical reasoning, and compassion.

I specialize in:

  • Preventive nutrition and healthy aging

  • Chronic disease nutrition support

  • Complex and multi-condition cases

  • Home-prepared and therapeutic diets

  • Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine

  • Trained in Pet First Aid

  • Integrative nutrition strategies that complement veterinary care

My goal is to equip pet parents with clear, practical tools and guidance so they feel confident supporting their pet’s health — not just short term, but for the long run.

My Philosophy

Nutrition is not one-size-fits-all, and meaningful health changes don’t happen overnight.

I believe the most effective nutrition care is personalized, holistic, and delivered over time, with room for adjustments as a pet’s needs evolve.

This is why my practice is built around care packages and ongoing support, rather than one-time advice.

I work best with pet parents who value thoughtful care, clear communication, and a collaborative approach to their pet’s health.

Biography

I’m a mom of two little kiddos and one very spirited puppy, and when you choose to work with me, you’re supporting a small, heart-led business built on a deep love for animals.

After earning a degree in Communications from Sacramento State, I realized my true calling was supporting the human–animal bond. I first followed this passion as a volunteer pet therapy team with my dog Izzy through Pet Partners International, visiting hospitals, assisted living communities, and care facilities. Witnessing the comfort and healing animals bring to people was transformative and inspired me to serve animals in even deeper ways. This led me to work for many years at a local Humane Society, where my understanding of the human–animal connection truly took root.

Wanting to further support pet parents, I later managed an independent pet store for over seven years whose mission aligned with my own. It was there—and through my personal journey with Izzy—that I learned a powerful truth: an animal is only as healthy as the food they’re given. Food is medicine, and proper nutrition can be the foundation for healing, vitality, and longevity.

Izzy Santosha (Santosha means contentment) was my greatest teacher. Rescued from abuse while I was an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer in Florida, Izzy struggled with mange, chronic ear infections, yeast, food sensitivities, inflammatory bowel disease, and severe anxiety. After moving to California, a holistic veterinarian introduced me to the healing power of fresh, biologically appropriate nutrition. Once Izzy transitioned off her prescription kibble diet and onto a raw diet, her symptoms steadily resolved—her digestion improved, her skin and ears healed, and her anxiety faded as her confidence grew.

From that point forward, I committed to a holistic model of health. Instead of suppressing symptoms, I focused on supporting Izzy’s body and its natural ability to heal. Along her journey, I incorporated nutritional therapy alongside biofeedback testing, chiropractic care, acupuncture, laser and ozone therapy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practices.

Healing is not linear—it evolves over time. Looking back at how overwhelmed and helpless I once felt, I deeply empathize with the pet parents I work with today. Just as I found guidance and hope along Izzy’s journey, it is now my mission to help others do the same. Together, we can support your pet’s health, vitality, and lifelong well-being.

In honor of my Soul Dog Izzy, who lit a path to helping others, filled with hope and love for the animals that change and heal us day by day.
